A receiving line is the traditional way that many people choose to greet guests at the reception as a couple. While it is a tradition many couples today choose to forgo the receiving line. If you decide that a receiving line is something you would rather not do, you can still set aside some time to stand in an accessible location as a couple so that guests who want to speak to the two of you are able to do so.
Whether you have a receiving line or not, once the reception meal is over, you and your new spouse should separate yourselves from the rest of wedding party and get out there and mingle with your guests. Mingle together as a couple, as that makes it easier to introduce each other to family and friends that the one or the other of you may not know.
When planning seating for your reception, keep in mind that allowing your guests to choose their own seating will make everyone more comfortable. They can then choose to sit near people they know and would like to visit with or if they like meeting new people they can choose to sit with someone they don’t already know. It will also make your job of planning much easier if you don’t have to create a seating chart.
One last thing to keep in mind, while this is certainly your day, many of your guests have rescheduled other things in their lives in order to attend your wedding. Be sure to let all your guests know that the both of your appreciate the fact that they have come to help celebrate your marriage.
