Choosing Colors for Flower Girl Dresses

 |  Published in Wedding Party Clothing

There are many things to decide when you are planning your wedding, but wedding flower girl dresses are one of those details that can often be overlooked until the last minute. When you consider your dresses for your flower girls you will need to think first about colors. There will not be many colors available at the last minute so your first inclination might be to go with black and white dresses. However, there are many ups and downs to choosing white dresses for your flower girls.

First, think about the age of your flower girls. If you are going with girls of a very young age, say under the age of five, you will definitely want to reconsider using white dresses. White stains very easily and is hard to clean. If the child gets anything on the dress it will be impossible to get it out, and the dress will not be reusable. However, if the flower girl is an older child this may not be a very big problem. It also makes a difference as to what material the dress is made out of. Some stain resistant materials make very good white flower girl dresses.

There are many other colors you might consider for your flower girl dresses other than white. Of course, you want your flower girls’ dresses to match with the rest of the color scheme for your wedding. However, if you can possibly get away with it a nice pink, even the palest pink, would work well for younger children. The youngest child might spill punch on their dress, but if it is pink punch it will not really show on a pink dress. If the punch will be yellow or another color, try to choose that color for your dress. The cake and the punch are the two things you really have to worry about. After all, you do not want your wedding pictures ruined by stains on your flower girls dresses!

Having a Young Flower Girl in Your Wedding

 |  Published in Wedding Party Thoughts

Having a flower girl can add a lot of fun to your wedding, but it can also add some stress if she’s young. When they’re young, they’re cute walking down the aisle and you’re sure to get a ton of  ’ohs and ahs’. The tough part is that a young flower girl can be somewhat unpredictable and you might be more worried about her nerves than your own. Here are a few tips to think about if you have young flower girl.

1. Get her involved in ALL of the wedding planning (if she’s old enough). She can help with shopping (especially for her flower girl dress) and certainly attend the shower and all of the rehearsals. If she feels part of it and really comfortable with knowing what is going on, you’re less like to have a day-of freak out.

2. Have her walk out before the maid of honor. That way if she gets freaked out and stops, the maid of honor can take her hand and lead her the rest of the way.

3. Make sure her grandparents and other key family members are in view when she walks out and as she’s walking down the aisle. This will ease her discomfort and they can help encourage her.

4. If you are having her scatter petals, make sure she’s not responsible for all of the scattering. You should have someone scatter the bulk of the petals before guests arrive and then the flower girl can just scatter a few as she walks down the aisle.

5. Make sure your flower girl knows your wedding party so that everyone there is familiar to her. You should spend a couple of minutes with her before the wedding too.

6. Find something for her to do right before the wedding that isn’t messy, but it will take her mind off of things and not give her time to stress out about the day.
