Choosing the Perfect Engagement Ring or Wedding Ring
| Published in Wedding Party Jewlery
If you’re looking at the most beautiful engagement rings, you know there are tons of options for ring settings, which stones to use, styles ranging from modern to old-fashioned and vintage rings, and which type of metals to hold it all together. Looking for the perfect ring can get overwhelming quickly, but here are some of the things you should consider when ring-shopping.
Type of metal
Many more materials are being used to form the bands on engagement rings than ever before, and more contemporary ring styles, like titanium and tungsten, are laboratory-developed metals that are extremely hard and resist scratches and pressure to an incredible extent. For people looking for an engagement ring that they can wear all the time without ever having to worry about taking it off to swim or bathe, and being constantly careful not to bang it against anything, some of the newer, tougher metals might be a good bet.
Type of jewels
Eternity rings are a niche engagement ring style that involve tiny jewels being placed along the entire band of the ring instead of one central precious gem being used. Because of the controversy with inhumane treatment of diamond miners, more and more people are turning to alternative gemstones in their engagement and wedding rings, especially their birthstones. Laboratory-created diamonds are also available for much cheaper than the natural kind, and you don’t have to worry about supporting an inhumane industry.
Engagement ring styles
Obviously the traditional pronged jewel style is still very popular, but tension rings especially are also growing more common. With tension bands, the jeweler uses a hard metal, like titanium to hold a hard jewel in place with the sheer tension of the band on either side of it. Only some gems will be hard enough to withstand this pressure, so your options might be more limited, but the end result is a very elegant appearance.
